Q: Yeah, really not all for the NUDE aspect. But I'm a artist-in-training, and I was wondering, what are some of the best ways to practice poses? Some say "Just draw them." But I do, and I think they look right, but when I see someone IN THE POSE, I realize I WAS HORRIBLY WRONG. No thank you to that. Some say take pictures of people in the poses...but I think that's just a tad bit awkward... Gah, I dunno what to do...Help?
A: Try going out somewhere(whether to a park, a mall, or a cafe) and draw the people around you. The idea here is speed, not perfection. You want to get down a person's pose, proportions, and movement down before they move and for that you have to work fast. Doing this way also keeps you from working on a single pose for too long, when what you want to do is draw a variety. If possible, draw children. They move around a lot more and in far more varied ways than adults. Draw seniors as well. Their bodies support them differently than young adults or children and they're often more difficult to get quickly down on paper. They do tend to stay still for longer periods of time, though, so that allows you to study them a bit more closely. The basic thing is you can't learn knew poses if you have people pose for you, or if you pose yourself. Get out there and see how real people move around, and then use that as reference for your own drawings. Hope this helps.
