Q: I'm working on an installation piece and I was wondering if there was a device I could use that would allow me to spread a specific smell around a medium sized classroom. I want to project an earthy/dirt smell and I suppose I could just put a nylon of dirt in front of a fan but is there a more sophisticated way to do this?
A: Scratch and sniff would be fun, but probably not feasible. If you don't want a fan blowing air around, maybe you could use heat, like a pan-of-mud-on-a-radiator kind of thing, if humidity wouldn't be an issue. Patchouli oil smells kind of dirty to some people too. Hand out paper cups and topsoil? For a professional system, look at http://www.scentair.com/products/index.php?subSectionID=2 Good luck :)
