Q: Are the water based acrylic paints used for ceramics and arts and crafts the same as those used in acrylic paintings? The paints I have a good quality, but I am just not sure. I am a new artist and am justing branching out....thank you for your help. ; ) I want to use the paints on canvas. Thanks.
A: The arts and crafts paints in the little bottles are not as color fast or as good a quality as the acrylic paint in the tubes. There is a new product on the market-water based oil paint that can be mixed with acrylic paint for a different texture and feel. Tube acrylic paints can be made thicker or thinner depending on something called a matte medium-it's a liquid acrylic(colorless). http://painting.about.com/od/watersolubleoilpaint/index_r.htm Artists are never to be understood;merely adored.
