What type of Paint should I use?

Q: I recently bought a chest that is an ugly blue and I want to repaint it. The exterior is like a fake leather and is very slick. What would be the best type of paint to use on this? Thanks alot.

A: If the surface is sandable, use a light weight sandpaper and rough the surface thoroughly..I always recommend that everything that is to be painted should be primed. I would suggest using a water based paint for this project. Priime th surface and let it dry for at least 24 hours. You may want to prime it a second time and let the second coat dry for at least another 24 hours. Select the color that you want to use, that is acrylic latex paint, and then apply the paint with a good brush. Again, you might want to apply a second finish coar to the chest. Be sure to allow the finish coat to dry before trying to use the chest for anything. You can choose flat latex or satin depending up of you personal taste. Take you time with this project and you could have a beautiful finished product. Good luck and God bless
