Is there an Infiniate amount of shades of color?

Q:

A: Yes and no. Yes, mathematically there is an infinite amount of color variations because color expression is simply a variation in the wavelenght of light. This means that if you vary the wavelength by .000000000001 you have a new color. However, the human eye cannot perceive these changes. Humans can only perceive a small range of the color spectrum and would not be able to differientiate two similar colors that have a variance of .000000000001. So, yes, technically, there are infinite colors but humans will never be able experience the whole gamut.
